EXPERIENCE THE MARRIAGE OF LOCAL SAKE
AND ARTISANAL POTTERY

Choko bar is a small local bar opposite the famous Ichibankan Karatsu pottery shop. Many different kinds of choko (traditional small cups for drinking sake) can be found here, and local sakes and delicious appetizers, using Karatsu ingredients, can be tried.
We have two courses: the “Local Sake Course” for anyone who would like to compare different local sakes, and the “Karatsu-ware Course” for people who would like to learn about Karatsu pottery as well as our local sakes. Please choose your favorite one.

STEP 1

CHOOSE YOUR FAVORITE CHOKO

Choose a “Karatsu-ware choko” to enjoy drinking Japanese sake from.

STEP 2

CHOOSE THREE KINDS OF LOCAL SAKE

The shopkeeper will give a short explanation on the different kinds of sake on offer, as well as their own recommendation. After this you can choose three sakes you would like to try.

STEP 3

POUR SAKE INTO YOUR CHOKO

After choosing local sakes, the shopkeeper will pour the first sake into your choko.

STEP 4

ENJOY THE FRAGRANCE AND TASTE OF SAKE

Begin by enjoying the fragrance of the sake in the choko. Then, keeping the sake in your mouth, move it around and slowly enjoy the taste.

STEP 5

ENJOY APPETIZERS

Enjoy eating appetizers of delicacies local to Karatsu, like zaru-tofu, smoked nuts and more.

STEP 6

ENJOY TWO MORE SAKES

After you have drunk the first one, you will have the opportunity to try a second and a third sake.
Please take your time and enjoy them.

ENJOY CHATTING ABOUT POTTERY
AND SAKE WITH LOCAL POTTERY EXPERT

After you’re full of sake and local delicacies, you can talk with the shopkeeper about Karatsu-ware and local sake. Occasionally, there may be an apprentice potter there to assist. Feel free to ask any questions you might have.
