The Former Karatsu Bank is open to the public for free, ever since it was donated to Karatsu City and completed some renovations. The design of the bank was completed by Tanaka Minoru, a student of the famous Tokyo Station designer Kingo Tatsuno. Using Queen Ann style architecture as a base, Tanaka creatively added subtle traditional Japanese nuances to the construction. The opulence of the red bricks calls back to a time when Karatsu had a booming economy.
